BENEDIKTUS - komunita s lidmi s mentálním postižením

Our community

Our community Benediktus has been inspired by life in L´Arche - the communities, where people with disabilities live together with people without disabilities. We are learning to live in the community, revealing our vocation to live in relationships with the disabled and with each other, learning to work together and to build the community ... In the community we are all called to cooperate and work together because we love each other and feel that we want to walk in the same direction. Everyone has their gift, they seek to develop, and everyone has their work. Community requires precise organization. This is true for the common life where you need to cook, shop, wash the dishes, clean, launder, receive visitors, to secure funding,...

The important part of living together is work - the opportunity to develop our skills, to fulfill oneself in anything we can do and like, what is useful and helpful for others. Similarly to other L´Arche communities we are working in craft workshops. Workshops are places of working together, creative activities, therapy, but especially places of intense relationships between assistants and people with disabilities.

The festive moments also have an important place in the community - a common prayer, trips, meetings and celebrations. Feast is the food for the heart, returning hope and strength to us, so that we are able to survive suffering and problems of everyday life. People need this time when we all come together as a community, we are grateful for life together, sing, dance, share our stories…
